Eat This: Faux Milkshake

It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of smoothies. Usually the smoothies are green around here because that seems to be the simplest way to make sure that we all get a little more veg in our day.

But sometimes, especially during a heat wave, you want a smoothie that’s a little less green and a little more faux-milkshake.

This smoothie is the answer.

Faux Milkshake

  • 2 bananas
  • 3 Tbsp almond butter (peanut butter would work)
  • 1 Tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 cup milk

  • Put it all into a blender and puree until smooth.
  • Add more milk if it is too thick for your liking.

The best review I can give you is that it passes the toddler test. No super-sneaky vegetables in this one, but still chock full of the good stuff that’ll help keep you going until dinner time comes around.

Oh, it totally gives awesome mustaches too. So, what are you waiting for? Bet you have everything you need right in your kitchen . . .

What do you think about substituting with rice or almond milk? I think this would go over really well with my kids! Thanks!

I think almond milk would work super well! Let me know!

Oh I love this one. Great idea to add almond butter + I would have almond milk in ours anyway 😉
    Will try it for sure.
    Happy weekending 😉

I bought about 5+ pounds of bananas this weekend so we can have this a lot this week. It’s a hit with nearly everyone. I added a half teaspoon of my homemade vanilla. Delicious!

Would you care to share one of your favorite green smoothies as well?

    Vanilla, that’s brilliant!

I have a green smoothie recipe over here (, though we rarely follow it. We basically put whatever we have in, recently it’s been bananas, frozen peaches, milk and swiss chard. We have so very much chard!

Love this. We blend up a shake before our bike rides. Added some strawberries to the mix. It was very good!
